Edge devices and IoT gateways

NubisNet IoT gateways

NubisNet® IoT gateways are a central component of Eaton’s IoT offering. Once the machine or plant data has been collected via intelligent components, such as the electronic motor protection switch PKE, the IoT gateway takes over the fast and secure transfer of the data to the cloud. Depending on local requirements, users can choose between a LAN, WLAN and LTE version of the gateway. The IoT gateways offer edge PLC functionality and secure data transfer.

Eaton's NubisNet IoT gateways are suitable for industrial applications and can be used in combination with our Brightlayer Industrial software products for remote monitoring and smart alarming. An ideal combination to digitize machines, plants and processes. The Gateways can also be connected to any 3rd party Cloud supporting MQTT.

Antennas for IoT gateways

For the WLAN and LTE gateways there are several different antennas available that can be selected depending on where the gateway is installed. The WLAN rod antenna is mounted directly on the gateway. It has an RP-SMA connector and can be tilted up to 90 degrees. The LTE rod antenna is connected via a male SMA connector and can also be tilted. In addition, it is possible to order a magnetic antenna and a wall-mounted antenna for the LTE gateway, both with a degree of protection IP67. The LTE antenna for wall mounting is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and is connected via a 5-metre cable. The second alternative to the LTE rod antenna has a magnetic base so that it can be mounted on any metal housing.

Cybersecurity

The topic of protecting industrial components from cyberattacks is not only relevant in regards to IoT gateways. In the white paper "Cybersecurity consideration for intelligent electrical systems" the different steps users must take to protect components from cyberattacks are described as well as how Eaton develops "secure" products.
