In a patient-care vicinity, only medical and diagnostic equipment that requires power backup at all times are to be plugged into a UL 60601-1 compliant UPS, for instance, whereas all non-medical equipment and personal devices that do not require power backup can be plugged into a UL 60601-1 compliant isolation transformer.
