Reference design guide – Critical power for healthcare

Our new reference design guide will help you with the design of electrical installations for healthcare buildings

Getting the design of electrical installations for healthcare buildings right is a complex task that requires a great deal of expertise and knowledge.
This technical reference guide will help consultants and electrical designers with the specifications. It is split into two sections.

Overview of standard requirements

The first section provides an overview of the standard requirements based on IEC 60364 “Low voltage electrical installations – Part 7-710: Requirements for special installations or locations - Medical locations”.  It outlines what you need to consider for different categories of healthcare buildings and the standards and legal requirements governing these installations.  It also describes different sources of back-up power and their role in different types of buildings and critical circuits.

Typical electrical installation

The second section looks at a typical electrical installation for critical power supply in a medium-sized hospital.  It discusses the system layout, including the line diagrams from the medium-voltage supply to the low-voltage system and explains the specification, layout, installation and use of standby generators and UPS systems.
