A modern server room should offer a high level of reliability, scalability and efficiency.
For the equipment inside the server room, the server room not only provides the conditions to support their operating environment, but also ensures their secure and reliable operations at the same time. This will allow for the extension of the service life of the equipment and take into consideration the individual equipment requirements of the right level of temperature, humidity, cleanliness, safety protection, power distribution, lightning protection and grounding.
Design Principles of the server room
The server room is the heart of data communications, computing, data exchanges and storage. It is where data communications and network data exchanges are highly concentrated. Such a room should have extensive bandwidth resources with safe and reliable facilities, excellent network management and a comprehensive set of value-added services. Therefore, the design of the server room must meet the various needs of current users as well as satisfy the requirements for expansion and development. The quality standards must be high, and it should be flexible and open. The design principles are built with Eaton’s experience with data center infrastructure and based on the basic principles involved in such construction. Eaton also integrates current situations and the needs of users. With that, we have established a data center planning framework, and adopted the following design principles in our planning:
User Requirements of the Server Room
Our team at Eaton will help walk you through plans to build a small server room that integrates the systems for power supply, cooling and dynamic environment monitoring. Eaton’s recommended solution will support IT load of 2-3.5kW. In addition, the solution will have enough battery capacity to satisfy the power distribution requirements of both systems and server room for 2 hours after a power failure. The air conditioning system will need to satisfy the requirements for heat dissipation and humidity so that the IT equipment can operate in a well-controlled environment all year round. The solution also needs to constantly monitor the sub-systems such as UPS and air conditioning, and the environment like the cabinet temperature and humidity as well as potential hazards like water and smoke.
About the Solution
The Eaton Micro Data Center (Eaton iCube) is a new generation of green data center infrastructure solutions that integrate subsystems such as UPS, power distribution, cooling, monitoring and lighting in one cabinet. The single-cabinet system from this series can be deployed quickly and offers great flexibility in installed configurations. Designed for use in indoor environment like micro data centers and branch offices, this standalone cabinet system can house any hardware equipment that is compliant to the industry standard (EIA-310-D) for 19-inch cabinet. These include server, voice, data, and network equipment. The six key systems in the product are tightly integrated to work seamlessly together. This allows small data centers to operate efficiently while offering key equipment like servers a normal and stable operating environment. The standard design allows for on-site assembly without a raised floor. The entire system can be delivered all at once resulting in a shorter delivery cycle
Introducing Eaton iCube Single Rack System
The iCube Standard Single Rack System measures 600 × 2000 × 1,200 mm (width x height x depth)
Features are as follows:
The hot and cold aisles are completely sealed, and all sub-systems such as those for UPS power supply, power distribution, wiring and dynamic environment monitoring are integrated internally.
The Eaton iCube Single Rack system is recommended as it offers the following advantages when compared with other conventional server solutions for smaller spaces:
The Eaton iCube Single Rack System comes with the built-in rack UPS and output power distribution unit with 95% overall efficiency. This gives the system an extremely compact footprint and only a small installation space is required. As the rack-type air conditioning installation mode is adopted with sealed cold and hot aisles, the airflow path and resistance for both air supply and return are significantly reduced. This allows the air conditioning unit to achieve the highest cooling efficiency even as it maintain an ideal operating environment within the rack.
