Does the 5PX G2 UPS have fans?

The 5PX G2 utilizes less fans and the internal fans have the capability to completely turn off at less than 30% load when the unit is fully charged for improved energy efficiency and reduced noise pollution.

How often should 5PX G2 UPS batteries be charged if the UPS is not installed?

When the 5PX G2 UPS is plugged in and connected to utility power, the UPS will charge the batteries according to the ABM charging technology. However, Eaton recommends recharging the 5PX G2 UPS every six months to prevent batteries from being damaged through self-discharge during storage. Charging time should be 48 hours in an ideal case with a minimum recommended time of 24 hours. Plugging in the 5PX G2 UPS to the local utility power is usually the easiest method for recharging the batteries and the 5PX G2 will automatically begin charging the batteries once the unit is plugged in.

What are the extended battery module (EBM) options for the 5PX G2 UPS?

You can add up to 4 EBMs for extra runtime for both rackmount and tower 5PX G2 UPS configurations.

EBM options:

  • 5PXEBM48RTG2-  Extended battery module for 5PX1000RTG2, 5PX1000RTNG2, 5PX1500RTG2, 5PX1500RTNG2, 5PX1500HRTG2
  • 5PXEBM72RTG2-  Extended battery module for 5PX2000RTG2, 5PX2000RTNG2, 5PX2200HRTG2, 5PX3000RTG2, 5PX3000RTNG2, 5PX3000HRTG2, 5PX3000HRTNG2
  • 5PXEBM72RT3UAG2-  Extended battery module for 5PX2000RT3UNG2, 5PX3000RT3UNG2
Extension cable options:
  • EBMCBL48RT- 5PX G2 2M EBM extension cable for 48V EMBs (use with 1–1.5 kVA models)
  • EBMCBL72-  5PX G2 2M EBM extension cable for 72V EMBs (use with 2–3 kVA models)

Do EBMs have to be arranged directly next to the 5PX G2 UPS?

No. Most customers prefer to put the external battery modules next to the 5PX G2 UPS, but it is not necessary. Eaton does provide 10-foot 5PX G2 battery extension cable accessories in order for the EBM to be placed up to nine feet away from the UPS.

Can you mix legacy 5PX and 5PX G2 UPS and EBM?

No legacy 5PX UPS must use legacy 5PX EBM and 5PX G2 UPS must use 5PX G2 EBM.

What network card should be used with the 5PX G2 UPS?

The 5PX G2 is compatible with Eaton’s latest cybersecure Gigabit Network Card (NETWORK-M3) and Industrial Gateway Card (INDGW-M2). The Eaton Relay-MS card and INDRELAY-MS can also be used in order to utilize dry contacts.

Can I do mass firmware upgrades with the Eaton 5PX G2 UPS?

Yes, you can do mass firmware upgrades via the Gigabit Network Card. Note that you cannot conduct firmware upgrades while the UPS is running on battery power during a power outage. Visit our firmware downloads page for the latest firmware.

Is there a 2-post rail kit available for the 5PX G2 UPS?

Yes, a 2-post rack mountail rail kit is avilable for 2U models only (part number: 103007018-5591).

How can I prioritize which equipment runs for how long on battery when the 5PX G2 UPS goes to battery?

There are several load management and energy saving features built into Eaton products, including the 5PX G2.

Load segments – These are outlet groups that are controllable and programmable through the front LCD menu or network card (NETWORK-M3, INDGW-M2). Segments can be programmed to turn off after a certain amount of time on battery, saving runtime for more critical equipment. Timing is manually programmed through the network card (NETWORK-M3, INDGW-M2). Additionally, load segments are often used to quickly cycle the power of a remote server or switch that is stuck, eliminating the need for a service call.

Virtual machine (VM) management – For applications with servers and virtualization, Eaton can shutdown VMs through IPM 2 software or even move VMs to other locations. This works much like load segmentation but is done virtually through the network. Read more for more about virtual machine shutdown through IPM 2.

Is there a way to turn the 5PX G2 UPS off to save battery life when my backup power system doesn’t need to be on?

The Remote On Off (ROO) functionality of the 5PX G2 is an ideal solution to turn the UPS on and off without direct human intervention, particularly in OEM or industrial control applications. The ROO feature acts much like a Remote Power Off (RPO) feature. However, the UPS will automatically restart when the external relay returns to its normally state. The ROO is programmed through the front LCD menu and can be set as either normally open or normally closed.

Is a UPS ship-in-rack option available for the 5PX G2 UPS?

Yes, UPS ship-in-rack option (UPS is installed in a server rack prior to shipment) is available for integration into packaged deployments simplifying set up and getting you online quicker, available with the 4-post rail kit (part number RK4PRS).

Is the new 5PX G2 Energy Star 2.0 compliant?

Yes. Learn more about ENERGY STAR 2.0 here.
